Need I ask or state why you may want more Twitter followers and Facebook likes? If you have any social media in place, you know the more the merrier when it comes to your following. Whether it’s for traffic reasons, lead generation, customer service, or any other reason, you’re company can never have enough relevant social followers.
If you have a blog, here are five ways to get more followers and increase traffic with a few social tools. (And if you don’t have one, here are 10 reasons to start a blog.)
1. Customize the tweet button
First off, each blog post that you write should offer an easy and efficient way for readers to share the article on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google+ and more (if your social heart desires). The tweet button, for example, should be customized to mention your company’s Twitter handle. For example, click the tweet button below:
See how it mentions @henryroominates? That is one way to add more followers.
2. Add a tweet button to each tip
Many helpful and shareable blog articles are organized into tips or steps that help the target audience learn. This article, for example, gives five tips for business bloggers. You can customize a tweet button for each tip so that readers can choose to tweet their favorite tip or tips rather than the entire article. I first saw this idea on Hubspot’s blog and really liked the idea.
3. Add a Facebook like button to each tip
Much like a tweet button, you can customize a Facebook like or recommend button. This is most helpful for a series of related blog posts. For example, on the Plan For College blog (a Roominate client) we bundled up a series of financial aid articles into one article with links. Readers could share the entire article or choose to recommend their favorite resources listed within the financial aid article. This is a great way to increase traffic.
4. Tag a social profile to the author
People like to see authors. If you have an author section or mention the author somewhere in your articles, add a social network to the profile. I like to tag my twitter name (@henryroominates) in the articles that I write so that people can follow me without going to Twitter. Each time I write an article, my number of relevant followers increases. If Google+ is more your thing, add that into the mix.
5. Add links to social networks
My #5 way to grow your social following through your blog is the most simple. Get people to visit your Twitter profile and Facebook page! One way to do that is to add in links where necessary. However, since people tend to skim right over links sometimes, add a call to action into the mix. Here’s one way to do it:
So those are five ways to get more traffic and more social followers right from your blog. It’s easy to set up these buttons and links and even easier for your readers to join you on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Google+.
